Day 998: Destiny Rise of Iron First Impressions - The main story

I’ve played a bunch of Destiny, both in the past and the last week, and things have changed. Here are my first impressions.

Let’s start with the main story quest. The story of the Iron Lords is fascinating. They’ve all got their quirks, and learning the tale of their demise was emotional. These characters we’ve learned about, and heard of since the beginning of the games, through weapons and grimoire. The quest starts off with the ascension of the mountain to get to to the new social space and defend it from the fallen. An enjoyable quest, and the resurgence of Sepiks Prime, as Sepiks Perfected, a fallen servitor who is now infected with SIVA, a swarm of nanobots.

The game introduces at the quest some of the new types of fallen, those enhanced by SIVA, and the SIVA concept, letting the players know that the threat is real, and moving into the next quests, we find out that the SIVA is spread, but was contained to the plaguelands, after being sealed away by the Iron Lords, the fallen now have their hands on it, and are using it to modify and advance.

We soon find out that the House of Devils, a Fallen noble house, are the culprits in the outbreak, as their rampant desire for improvement through technology lead to the discovery and liberation of the SIVA.

During this time we’re introduced to the Archivist Tyra Khan as well as Shiro, and we get to hear more about Saladin, and the past, that Saladin had kept SIVA from the records so this situation wouldn’t arise.

But it has arisen, all from the information being extracted at Clovis Bray research centre on Mars. We went through here to rid Mars of the threat of the Psion Flayers, but that felt like a long time ago.

And so we work our way through the plaguelands to rid the area of the SIVA threat, or at least try to keep it contained. The quest finishes off taking us deep into a SIVA infested warmind complex (to my understanding at least), the grave of the Iron Lords. The quest ends with an awesome boss fight, and I thought it all resolved excellently.

Bear in mind though, all this happened over only 5 missions, and there was so much more to this expansion to explore and discover.

So far I’ve had a great time, I really enjoyed the main story, and I can’t wait to find out what secrets I’ve missed, I’ve heard some really awesome speculation as well, and I can’t wait to see where the game goes from here.

Have an excellent day! You’re all my favourites!
