Today, I don't really know what to say.
I like podcasts, and they're great, though I know I want to write about them tomorrow.
I like heavy metal, and other music too, and this week I've listened to (with purpose) Harmonicraft by Torche, and Magma by Gojira. Both of which have their own merits. Gojiras new album is spell binding, dense, and certainly demands more listens through from me. Harmonicraft on the other hand, it a delight to listen to, and with the amount of times I've listened to it, one of my favourite albums.
But Magma right now doesn't touch on those moments that really define themselves as albums that I need in my life.
Harmonicraft, however, is an album that did open my eyes, that metal didn't need to be the heavy negative sounding audio nonsense that most people are familiar with.
Another album that I consider essential for my own growth, in terms of music, and personally, is the doom album Woods 5: Grey Skies and Electric Light by Woods of Ypres. The album has a lot of resonance with me, I spent a lot of time playing Dark Souls listening to it, it's dark, and doomy, but there's not so much heaviness too it, the music is relatively raw, and not processed much, and it's gorgeous to listen to. The lyrics across the album resonated with me, and the impact of the words were enhanced by the tragedy that happened just prior the release of the album.
I need to listen to that album, I'll probably put it on this afternoon in the lab. Why not. I've also been burning through podcasts.
