Today I'm at a gig. Or more accurately, when I post this, I've been at a gig. Mainly because I'm posting a short bit after each band have played, so for three of the bands this has been when I was still at the gig. Confused? I am.
I've seen Like the Storm, Gojira, Volbeat and Alter Bridge.
Like the Storm were good, a very enjoyable live show. I didn't know what to expect going in, and that was probably for the best as I was pleasantly surprised. I was certainly surprised when the singer took a break from his singing duties to play didgeridoo. Overall it was a solid live performance.
Then, out came Gojira. Who aren't for everyone. Well, my dad and I enjoyed them, while some people around us didn't enjoy them too much. They played a verifiably heavy set, including ocean planet, silvera, backbone and a few others whose names is be able to figure out were I to have a quick listen. The set was great, and I'm glad I've seen them again.
Next up was Volbeat, and while I have heard quite a bit of their music, I didn't really know what to expect. I've never really given them much time. And now, I feel like I should. The performance was fantastic, the singer is actually amazing, there was something about his recorded voice that kind of put me off a little, but live I didn't have any of that. They even had Barney Greenway from Napalm Death join them on stage for a song and that was wicked.
Then Alter Bridge were fantastic. They played a varied mix from all of their albums, and they played the amazing Blackbird. The singer also played their song watch over you on an acoustic guitar solo, and it was pretty magical if I'm honest.
All in all I've had a wonderful evening!
Have an excellent day! You're all my favourites!
